4K Video and 4K Photo —
Capture the Perfect Moment
The DMC-G7’s 4K video recording capabilities allow users to capture stunningly-smooth, high-resolution scenes at an unprecedented speed of 30 fps with 8 Mpx equivalent resolution. Additionally, users can take fleeting photo opportunities within their 4K videos by using three new features – 4K Burst Shooting, 4K Burst S/S (Start/Stop) and 4K Pre-burst. All of these functions enable the user to simply select photos from the 4K video by cropping the desired frame out of the 4K burst file.
Focus on the Moment
Be ready to grab the next sudden shutter opportunity. Adding Depth From Defocus (DFD) Auto Focus (AF) technology*1 to Contrast AF has achieved both higher precision and greater speed at approximately 0.07 seconds*2. This combines with approximately 200% AF Tracking performance*3, 8 frames per second burst shooting in full resolution, and UHS-II SDXC Memory Card compatibility, to turn those once-in-a-lifetime moments into memories that last forever.
*1 Contrast AF with DFD technology works only with Panasonic Micro Four Thirds lenses.
*2 In AFS, with the H-FS14140.
*3 Panasonic comparison with LUMIX G6.
Everything in the Right Place
Not only does the LUMIX G7 feature a stylish, sophisticated body and a snug, hand-fitting grip, it also provides an intuitive level of operation. The Live View Finder (LVF) helps you to frame your images even under bright sunlight conditions, and the body design allows you to freely customize settings. The front/rear dials control the main aperture and shutter speed settings, while easily switching to handle temporary WB and ISO adjustments. Settings can also be assigned to six function buttons.* In addition, the 4K Photo mode can quickly be active by using the 4K Photo feature on the drive mode dial.
* Six buttons on the body and five buttons on the menu.
4K Video – More Details than Full HD
Whether you are watching movies or editing videos, 4K delivers a far more intense viewing experience than you have seen before. Its native resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels is four times larger than Full HD, resulting in a much higher level of detail. Even if you export your footage filmed in 4K to a Full HD TV, the video files will have even better definition and crisper details than those filmed in Full HD.
Note: When recording videos in 4K, use a card rated as UHS Speed Class 3.
4K Photo – Capture the Perfect Moment
Using the high resolution of 4K, Panasonic LUMIX G7 camera introduces the new 4K Photo function which allows you to extract individual frames from a video sequence (filmed at 30 frames per second) to capture those magical moments that only occur at a split second. With 4K Photo you can always be assured that you have the freedom to decide on your very own ‘perfect moment’.
4K Photo Modes – Free Your Creativity
The 4K Photo function can be used in three different modes, all allowing you to capture that perfect moment at a high burst rate of 30 frames per second.
4K Burst
This function is similar to photo burst shooting mode where the camera keeps shooting 8 Mpx images at ultra high burst rate, as long as the shutter button is pressed.
4K Burst S/S (Start/Stop)
This standard 4K Photo function allows you to record a 4K movie so you can extract any frame as an 8 Mpx image later, so relax and wait for the moment to come.
4K Pre-Burst
The ‘4K Pre-Burst’ mode starts recording a 4K video sequence even one second before/after you press the shutter button. This allows you to capture an unpredictable moment which can happen much faster than you are able to react, giving you an extra 60 images to choose from.
Post Focus – Select the in-focus area even after shooting
Have you ever imagined that you can set sharp focus on the target subject after you shot the images? Now you can easily do it with the Post Focus function.
The function has been developed based on Panasonic’s 4K and high-speed, high-precision DFD (Depth From Defocus) auto focus technology.
Shoot the image on the spot and save it as you like later – it’s a whole new photographic experience for creative freedom.
High Speed Auto-Focusing
with DFD Technology
Capture even the fastest moving action thanks to Panasonic’s Depth From Defocus (DFD) Auto Focus (AF) technology*1. The LUMIX G7 features this brand new technology that instantly calculates the distance between the items inside the frame and drives the focus of the lens in one fast, continuous movement. This new system results in AF speeds up to 0.07 seconds*2 and a burst shooting speed with AFC of 6 frames per second. It also increases the stability of continuous focusing when shooting video.
*1 Contrast AF with DFD technology works only with Panasonic Micro Four Thirds lenses.
*2 In AFS, with the H-FS14140 lens.
Fast and Precise AF Tracking
The camera’s Pinpoint AF gives users the capabilities to magnify their target area to set an accurate and extremely precise focus. The DMC-G7’s calculated algorithm of AF Tracking ensures that the colour, size and motion vector of each subject are recognized and captured even more accurately than ever before.
Focusing in Low Light Conditions — Star Light AF
The Low Light AF feature makes it possible for users to achieve a clear focus on their subject as precisely and quickly as possible, even in extremely low-lit situations. Furthermore, the DMC-G7’s newly integrated Starlight AF allows users to achieve a clear photo of a star in the night sky with auto focus. This can be achieved by an accurate calculation of the contrast value in each split AF zone.
High Image Quality Even in Low Light Conditions
The 16 megapixel Digital Live MOS Sensor in combination with the Venus Engine provides both high quality image capture and high speed signal processing. The superior noise reduction system enables crisp images even in low light conditions up to ISO 25,600.
The Venus Engine vividly improves colour reproduction with an accurate evaluation of each colour – in both saturation and luminosity – allowing the camera to capture exceptionally fast-moving subjects in complete focus.
Perfect Sight and Framing
The DMC-G7’s display area has been redesigned to include a high-precision OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) that increases the resolution of the display area to 2,360K-dot, with approx. 1.4x / 0.7x (35 mm camera equiv.) magnification and 100% field of view. The redesigned eyecup improves switching the image output between the LVF and rear monitor automatically with a built-in sensor on the LVF. The addition of OLED enables the display area to respond at high-speed with minimum lag time, all the while enhancing resolution. Also, the OLED for the LVF boasts 10,000:1 contrast allowing for superior colour reproduction.
Focus Peaking
To give the most precise focus control possible, the LUMIX G7 has a manual focus peaking function, that shows you which area is in focus and how far the depth of field extends.
Silent Mode
This mode switches the shutter from mechanical to electronic and turns all sounds off, while suppressing emission of the AF system. Silent shooting with LUMIX G opens areas of photography that are out of reach for other photographers.
