Unprecedented blend of optical performance and versatility
New innovative all-in-one lens that does it all
Tamron has distilled all the technical capabilities and know-how accumulated over the past 28 years in developing its all-in-one zoom lenses to create this RXD 28-200mm F/2.8-5.6 Di III RXD (Model A071), designed exclusively for Sony E-mount. The lens has a large maximum aperture of F2.8 at wide 28mm, which represents a world first* for all-in-one zoom lenses, and delivers high-level performance throughout the zoom range, from the 28mm wide angle to 200mm telephoto. Despite covering a wide range of focal lengths, the lens is lightweight and compact, with a length of 117mm (4.6 in) and a weight of 575g (20.3 oz). In addition to day-to-day portability, the 28-200mm F2.8-5.6's lightweight and compact size makes it especially convenient for travel photography, where users wish to avoid the burden of heavy luggage. Tamron has also taken an uncompromising approach to optical performance, making liberal use of special lens elements—including LD (Low Dispersion) and XLD (eXtra Low Dispersion)—to significantly suppress chromatic aberrations and achieving high image quality from edge to edge. With a MOD (Minimum Object Distance) of 0.19 m (7.5 in.) at the wide end and 0.8 m (31.5 in.) at the telephoto end, the lens also delivers top-level close-up shooting performance. The AF drive system is powered by the RXD (Rapid eXtra-silent stepping Drive) stepping motor to deliver high-speed, high-precision performance. The lens also features a moisture-resistant construction and a fluorine coating for added protection. When it comes to all-in-one zooms, the innovative 28-200mm F2.8-5.6 is unique in its kind, vividly capturing virtually any scene, from landscape photography to portraits and snapshots.
Among the all-in-one zoom lenses currently available for interchangeable lens cameras (zoom ratio of 7x or more) (As of May 2020: Tamron)
In 1992, Tamron launched its first all-in-one zoom lens, the AF 28-200mm F/3.8-5.6 Aspherical (Model 71D). At that time, the Model 71D astonished the world and overturned the current perception of all-in-one zooms as large, heavy, and delivering poor image quality. Since then, Tamron has continued to develop and innovate as a pioneer in the field of all-in-one zooms, offering a stream of groundbreaking models such as the 18-400mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC HLD (Model B028), offering the world's only 22.2x zoom ratio*. Now, the Model A071 also shares the legendary name "71" given to Tamron's revolutionary all-in-one zoom: a name imbued with the destiny of writing a new chapter in the history of all-in-one zooms.

From wide-angle to telephoto, all-in-one zoom lenses offer a wider range of utility, from everyday shots to travel and much more. That's why Tamron pursued a high level of portability in the development of the 28-200mm F2.8-5.6, achieving a compact and lightweight design that is only 117mm (4.6 in) long and weighs only 575g (20.3 oz). The small size allows for comfort and convenience, even during long trips, without the burden of a heavy camera bag. The 67mm filter size is the same as other lenses in Tamron's mirrorless lens lineup*. This means that filters such as PL (Polarizer) and lens caps can be used for all models in the series, for added convenience and less hassle when changing lenses.

The 28-200mm F2.8-5.6 is the first * 1all-in-one zoom lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras offering a maximum aperture of F2.8. It maintains outstanding performance throughout the zoom range and aperture values of F3.5 at 50mm, F4.5 at 100mm, F5.6 at 200mm. From landscape photography to portrait photos and snapshots, the 28-200mm F2.8-5.6 delivers finely detailed images in a wide range of shooting situations. The generous use of special LD and XLD lens elements (with properties close to those of fluorite) allows it to completely minimize chromatic and other aberrations, while the application of the BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) coating provides high anti-reflection benefits and reduces ghosting and flare that are otherwise likely to occur when shooting backlit scenes. In addition, by taking advantage of the camera's features * 2, the lens offers excellent optical performance to match the high-resolution image sensors of the latest cameras, achieving beautiful images that surpass the all-in-one zoom lenses of the past.

Focal Length: 28mm Exposure: F/2.8 1/30sec ISO 1250
The 28-200mm F2.8-5.6 delivers incredible close-up performance for an all-in-one zoom lens. At 28mm wide angle, the MOD is 0.19m (7.5 inches) with a maximum magnification ratio of 1:3.1 and at the 200mm telephoto end, it has a MOD of 0.8m (31.5 inches) with a maximum magnification ratio of 1:3.8. In addition to capturing stunning close-up images, you can take advantage of blurred background bokeh by using a large F-number and enjoy unique close-ups that were not possible with all-in-one zooms until now.

Focal length: 28mm Exposure: F/2.8 1/320sec ISO 100
The AF drive on the 28-200mm F2.8-5.6 includes an RXD motor to help you stay focused on the action. The RXD uses an actuator to precisely control the motor's rotation angle, allowing it to directly drive the focusing lens without going through a gearbox. A sensor that precisely detects the lens position enables fast and accurate autofocus, ideal when shooting continuously moving subjects or recording video. And with a smooth and quiet focusing system, the 28-200mm F2.8-5.6 lets you shoot stress-free without worrying about the sound of the player in a quiet environment.
Focal Length: 28mm Exposure: F/6.3 1/800sec ISO 100
The 28-200mm F2.8-5.6 for Sony E-mount covers a wide focal length range in a single lens, from 28mm at the wide-angle end to 200mm at the telephoto end. This versatile range allows for a variety of photographic expressions, from wide-angle shots of expansive landscapes to close-up, compressive compositions when shooting with a telephoto lens. The compact and lightweight design makes it easy to carry the lens anytime, anywhere. The 28-200mm F2.8-5.6 is a very practical lens that can be used for almost any genre, from sweeping landscapes and city snapshots to tabletop photography and professional-looking portraits.

Additional Features
By combining the 28-200mm F2.8-5.6 with other members of Tamron's* line of 67mm filter lenses for full-frame mirrorless cameras, you can cover an even wider range of scenes. For example, combining the 28-200mm F2.8-5.6 with the 17-28mm F/2.8 Di III RXD (Model A046) provides a focal length range of 17mm to 200mm, from ultra-wide angle to telephoto. Even when carried together, these two lenses weigh less than 1 kg (995 g / 35.1 oz), providing excellent portability. Combining this all-in-one zoom with the 20mm F/2.8 Di III OSD M1:2 (Model F050) or other lenses in Tamron's prime lens series allows the wide-angle end to be extended to match the subject being photographed. The combined weight of both lenses is less than 800g (28.2 oz), making them surprisingly easy to carry together. The 67mm filter size is shared with other lenses in the series, too. This allows for efficiency in filter usage and emphasizes flexibility, as the same polarizing filters and lens caps can be shared between all models.
