Versatile lens construction
- The lens features an assignable AFL button for custom functions, as well as a focus mode dial and aperture ring lock. The aperture ring can be turned on or off for smooth video.
- A water- and oil-repellent coating on the front lens element allows for shooting in harsh outdoor environments, while dust- and splash-resistant construction protects the internal elements.
- A removable tripod mount, compatible with Arca clamps, is included for increased stability despite the weight of the lens. This mount can be replaced with the included protective cover.
Complex optical design
- Sigma combines two aspherical elements and four F Low Dispersion (FLD) elements to ensure clarity from the widest aperture at f/1.4 through the rest of the aperture range.
- A total of 17 elements in 13 groups, along with a rounded 13-blade diaphragm, create beautiful circular bokeh, minimizing vignetting and color bleeding even at the edges.
- Sigma's Super Multi-Layer Coating is used to optimize backlight resistance, minimizing potential lens flare and ghosting.

- No longer intended solely for photography, the lens elements have been optimized to reduce focus breathing, making it a solid choice for professional video use.
- Powered by Sigma's dual HLA (High-Response Linear Actuator) focusing system for fast and quiet autofocus throughout the telephoto focusing range, reliably capturing fast-moving subjects.
