Innovative performance of the Z system

Cutting-edge optical technology

Driven by the wider mount, shorter wing distance, and cutting-edge imaging advancements of the Z system, the NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/4 S delivers incredible sharpness, rendering, and even illumination across the entire frame.

Constantly remarkable

A constant f/4 maximum aperture helps maintain consistent exposure at any zoom setting. Record smooth zoom transitions with even illumination across the entire frame.

Smooth edges

The Z camera's wider mount allows for extraordinary definition and resolution from the center of the frame to the edges. There's no need to stop down this lens's aperture.

Realistic

A new optical formula achieves faithful color reproduction with minimal lateral/axial chromatic aberration, as well as virtually no sagittal coma, even at 24mm.

Small and powerful

Home away from home

With a highly versatile zoom range for both stills and video, and a beautifully compact and lightweight design, the NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/4 S is the ideal travel companion.

Think small

Close focus is less than 0.3 m (1 ft) from your subject (at any focal length) for macro shots with a reproduction ratio of 0.3—much wider than most similar lenses.

New five-axis dual-sensing optical VR

Uses the superior image stabilization system built into the Z camera for up to five stops of correction for tilt, roll, yaw, and X- and Y-axis shake. Additional electronic VR (e-VR) during video capture.

Robust and lightweight

Thoroughly sealed against dust and moisture, especially around the moving parts of the barrel. Includes a non-stick fluorine coating on the front element for easy cleaning.

The front of the revolution in imagery

Next-Generation Z System Design and Optics

Z lenses, perfectly matched to Z camera bodies, are designed with a sense of uniformity that combines reliability and beauty with a new dimension of optical performance that enables the freedom of image creation.

Full of precision

The wider Z camera mount allows for more data sharing between the lens and camera, allowing for faster, more accurate focusing and improved distortion control.

Silent stepper motor

Designed specifically for the new Z mount size, a new ultra-silent stepping motor (STM) powers the virtually silent and fast AF and aperture adjustments.

New customizable control ring

Can be used for manual focus (default), aperture control (perfect for iris transitions during video recording), or exposure compensation.

The lens features an electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism. The following cameras are compatible with these lenses: Z 7, Z 6.

Stepper motor

Stepper motor

NIKKOR Z lenses use a stepping motor for quiet, fast, and smooth autofocus with reduced wobble. This silent system makes these lenses ideal for shooting video.

Aspherical – Extra-low dispersion glass elements

Aspherical – Extra-low dispersion glass elements

An Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass element incorporating the characteristics of an aspherical glass element for more compact lenses. Like aspherical lenses, AS-ED lens elements minimize coma and other types of lens aberrations, even at large apertures, by constantly changing the reflection index from the center of the lens. AS-ED lens elements are composed of optical glass developed by Nikon to achieve optimal correction of chromatic aberrations.

AS

AS

AS stands for aspherical lenses. This type of lens includes non-spherical surfaces on one or both sides of the glass to eliminate certain types of aberrations.

Nanocrystal treatment

Nanocrystal treatment

Nikon-developed anti-reflective coating that virtually eliminates reflections on internal lens elements across a very wide wavelength range.

Electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism

Electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism

An electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism located in the lens barrel provides extremely precise electronic control of the diaphragm or aperture blades when using automatic exposure in continuous shooting. On conventional D/G-type lenses, the diaphragm blades are activated by mechanical linkage levers.

IF Objective

IF Objective

A NIKKOR lens with an internal focusing system: Only the lens groups move without extending the lens. This type of lens is designated by the abbreviation IF located on the barrel.

Fluorine coating

Fluorine coating

Photographers need equipment that can withstand the elements. Nikon's Fluorine Coating effectively repels dust, water droplets, grease, or dirt, ensuring easy removal even when they adhere to the lens surface. Nikon's Fluorine Coating withstands frequent wiping of the lens surface, and its anti-reflective effect also makes photos sharper.

Super integrated processing

Super integrated processing

Nikon Super Integrated Coating is Nikon's term for the multi-layer coating of the optical elements contained in NIKKOR lenses.
