Optical image stabilization — up to 5.5 stops* of shake correction
For consistently sharp results, the RF24mm F1.8 MACRO IS STM features in-body optical image stabilization, providing improved shake reduction with up to 5.5 stops* of shake correction. When paired with an EOS R-series camera featuring in-body image stabilization (IBIS), coordinated IS enables up to 6.5 stops of correction. This means more reliable handheld performance and clearer details in low-light situations, without having to increase ISO or reduce shutter speed. Due to its improved stabilization, the RF24mm F1.8 MACRO IS STM can also help minimize the need for a tripod.

STM lead screw type
Canon's Stepping Motor (STM) technology is particularly effective at producing smooth and quiet autofocus during video recording, even in low-light conditions. This lens is a perfect choice for multimedia content creation with silent autofocus. In addition, the STM focus drive also provides responsive, fast, and exceptionally quiet autofocus during still image shooting.
Control ring for direct parameter changes

The RF24mm F1.8 MACRO IS STM lens incorporates a Control Ring on the lens barrel that can directly adjust numerous settings, including shutter speed, aperture, exposure compensation, and more. Located toward the front of the lens and effectively adding a third dial to the EOS R camera's Main Dial and Quick Control Dial, the Control Ring has an easily distinguishable tactile surface and features a click mechanism that provides tangible feedback for confident operation while viewing through the viewfinder. For photographers and filmmakers who prefer a silent Control Ring, the click mechanism can be removed by a Canon service provider for a fee.
